Coolest Barrel of Monkeys Costume 2

I got the idea for this Barrel of Monkeys Costume watching my daughter play with a big group of stuffed monkeys.

I found a simple pattern at a local craft store and decided on using a lime green color to make her stand out from the stuffed monkeys she already had.

I made the barrel from a large piece of pillow foam that I cut to fit her and covered it with a "rough" textured material with hot glue.

Then drew the lines for the barrel with a black sharpie and hot glued a silver ribbon at the top and bottom to look like the metal bands on a barrel.

I attached the same silver ribbon to the inside of the barrel so I could tie her monkeys to it instead of permanently attaching them.

I found a pink flower hair clip and put that on one of her "monkey ears" to let everyone know she was a "girl monkey" plus I had her wear a similar color shoe to match it.

I sewed (you could also hot glue) two strips of the same "rough" material together at each end and then sewed it to the barrel.

Keep in mind the weight of the monkeys that you are going to use. I ended up not putting as many on her because of that fact.

She had a blast trick-or-treating and was the "Coolest Monkey" and the hit of Halloween... in fact, she is still playing with the barrel days after Halloween!

This year I had a Homemade Barrel of Monkeys Costume for Halloween. I work with kids and thought that this would be a great costume for our Halloween party. This was one of the easiest costumes I have made, but everyone that saw it LOVED it! I used two "Keg Tubs" (12 Gallon rope handle buckets) and red duck tape. I cut the bottom of each tub out and I cut off the rope handles. Before taping the buckets I connected the two to each other using the holes from the rope handles and some nuts and bolts. I put one tub on top of the other and covered them with red duck tape.

After the entire "barrel" was covered in vertical strips of duck tape I put one horizontal strip around the middle of the barrel (where the two buckets sat on each other). I cut two slits in the front and two in the back and used a pair of old fireman suspenders to hold up the barrel. I attached the suspenders to the barrel with zip ties. I used a magic marker to write barrel of monkeys on each side of the barrel and then I drew three monkeys on a cardboard box and cut them out, painted them red, and hung/taped them to the barrel.

To top off the costume I wore all red and a sock monkey hat so that I was one of the monkeys in the barrel.

Homemade Barrel of Monkeys Halloween Costume

This Barrel of Monkeys Halloween Costume I made when my son was 5. I just took some light brown material and created a cylinder out of it. You can hot glue or sew. Took 4 rings of metal (2 different sizes) and glued and stitched the metal inside the material. From top to bottom, small, large, large and then small.

I hand painted the logo and wood grain onto the material, to make it look more like a barrel. I bought two $1.00 squeaky monkeys from Target (dog toys) and quickly sewed them to two shoulder straps that I had attached to the top of the barrel. I then bought a brown hoodie and created a little hood out of brown furry material. You could just attach some homemade ears to the hood of the hoodie. It was an idea that we got from a store bought costume that we saw on the internet. We just made it our own.
