My place of employment is big into Halloween and the celebration is one to be envied. This year, being 42 years old and experiencing the not so great side of aging, I decided to be "Middle Aged Barbie". I came complete with graying hair, hot flashes, mood swings, liver spot stickers, full support bra, spare tire, fanny pack, plus others (see my box) but my bonus feature was: Make Middle Aged Barbie laugh, cough or sneeze and she'll pee her pants (panty liners included). I won the costume contest at work, not to mention tons of laughter as I walked around strutting my stuff.

The Middle Aged Barbie Halloween Costume is 100% homemade, funny thing was we brought the box to my workplace before anyone arrived, hid it, and because of the way I was dressed, co-workers assumed I didn't dress up, and then when it was time for the parade and costume judging and I came shuffling up in my box, the explosion of laughter was enormous.

My husband and I went to our local appliance dealer for cardboard boxes, measured, cut, and put together the box. Primed it, painted it, cut it, put it together, and individually glued every one of the letters and decorations on to the box. There are handles inside the box at my hand level so that I could actually lift and walk with the box.

It took us an entire weekend but was so worth it for the numerous compliments I got on it. It was a lot of fun!

Coolest Barbie In the Box Costume 32

Homemade Barbie In the Box Costume

Homemade Barbie In the Box Costume

This is my Homemade Barbie In the Box Costume. My costume took about two days to make. I put 2 boxes on top of one another, then I taped them together with duck tape leaving the front open. I then spray painted the box pink. I put a shimmery hot pink fabric inside the box to have a neat looking backdrop and to give depth. I cut holes on each side of the box where my knees would be, but you could not see the holes because the flaps of the top of the box were folded in where it would be hidden.

I then put a clear shower curtain and spray adhesived it to the front of the box to make it look like a real Barbie box. I then wrote "Barbie" on a poster and put it around the front of the box. I put my outfit togther to make it look hip. I wore white leggings, a pink tight dress, a white belt, and white knee high boots. I also accessorized (as a Barbie comes packaged). Did Barbie flawless makeup, and wore a white wig. I then (with help) had the box lifted over my head and put on. I could walk in it by lifting it by the holes I made and carried it, could sit it down and it would look like and unopened barbie in the box. Thanks so much!

This homemade Freedom Edition Barbie and Ken couple costume was made from moving boxes! We cut out the look we wanted. Spray painted and added flare. I worked on the details, while he painted the boxes. It cost us under $100 for the boxes and outfits! This costume could be easily modified where you would only have to spend under $25 for boxes and supplies! Who doesn't love the Freedom Edition Pinup Barbie and Marine Ken?
