My Hubby LOVES Angry Birds and wanted a Store bought costume, I said NO WAY! I got right on it! I came up with the idea for this Homemade Playable Angry Birds Costume because I wanted to show the whole game! I went to the craft store and got felt squares. Then headed over to the Dollar store and got the little colored lights. Then over to Uhaul for the cardboard box.
I had all of the pigs and birds made the first day. I used stuffing from an old pillow, my trusty sewing machine and some hot glue. I turned on the game as reference for the pattern to make the characters. The rest of the costume was made with materials I already had at home. Spray Paint, construction paper, hot glue, cotton balls, homemade sling shot, and time. We started on Tuesday and had it done on Saturday morning. It was so much fun to make! The King Pig face is made with an old headband and old safety glasses with felt glued on. I hope you like it too!
Homemade is the only way to go!!

My daughter changed her mind at the last minute, this year, and decided she wanted a Homemade White Angry Bird Costume. In only a few hours, I was able to make her a super cute costume.
I used white fleece for the majority of the costume and cheap muslin on the inside. The front is made like a pillow, with a face hole in the middle. I stitched the front and back together, before stuffing the front, leaving 2 arm holes for her. The eyes, cheeks, and bottom green bit are felt, hand sewn. The beak is also felt but cut and sewn into its shape and stuffed to make it 3 dimensional. The tuffed of black hair on top is a fuzzy material sewn into shape, stuffed, and stitched on top. She has a similar tuffed on the back for a tail.
A white long sleeve shirt and pants, some white face paint, and voila'. She wants me to dye a pair of tights yellow and make some yellow bird like feet out of felt to go over her shoes. We'll see if that gets done.
Each year the boys will "mandate" what costumes they want. So, the goes credit to them. I am only the one that brings their ideas and imagination to life. They told me that birds have feathers, so their costumes must have feathers. So, feathers it is! They wanted the red and yellow bird and they wanted the exact shape they have. So,to accomplish this wish, I needed wires, fabric, lots and lots of feathers, markers, all kinds of glue and etc.
This Homemade Feathered Angry Birds Couple Costumes has already won them a first place in a local costume contest and they made their first appereance in the local newspaper as well. This was a pricey and time consuming costume, but they had a lot fun and I would do it all over again. Younger kids would see them and they would think they were the actual characters and not just another costume walking around. People stopped them to take pictures of them and with their kids.
