Homemade Leg Lamp and Ralphie from A Christmas Story Costumes
My idea for these Homemade Leg Lamp and Ralphie from A Christmas Story Costumes comes from the coolest Christmas movie ever - "A Christmas Story". I had actually previously made the Major Award Lamp and it sits in my window every holiday season! To make it as a costume was harder than I imagined.
I was torn between having both legs in fishnet or having one leg in black tights and the other in fishnet (like the lamp). I also asked myself: Do I make the lampshade my whole upper torso, or do I keep it like the lamp and make it a skirt? I needed it to be family friendly.
I made a hoop skirt slip with glow sticks as my hoop. I slid the glow sticks in a specific sleeve that I added to my slip and connected them to make a big circle. My skirt was made using gold velvet fabric. I hot-glued the fringe on the outside. With my skirt over the hoop slip, it looked like a lampshade and glowed around the bottom because of the glow sticks.
My husband was Ralphie in the pink bunny suit. I still owe him for wearing that! I actually used a flat pink sheet and drew around him on the floor as a pattern. I added a little more for seam allowance. I attempted to make a hood and got dollar store gloves and ears. I made some little bunny shoe covers and had 3D glasses with popped-out lenses.
Cost of the costumes: $1-gloves $1-bunny ears $3-glow sicks $3-fishnet stockings $4-fringe for skirt $4-material for skirt

Homemade Ralphie Costume from A Christmas Story
I decided to go as Ralphie Parker from the movie A Christmas Story to a Halloween party. It took a little putting together but nothing too hard. I got the big red glasses on eBay, the bunny suit on some Easter bunny costume site (a little expensive but worth it) and the bb gun from Walmart.
I wrote up the essay by watching the movie and taking down word for word what Ralphie reads. The heading stuff is pretty straight from the movie too, all accurate stuff. Ralphie Parker, Miss Shields, Warren G. Harding School, Grade 4, etc., everything was word for word.
Some people thought I was the Easter bunny, some people thought I was a mix between Elmer Fudd hunting wabbits, but the ones that got it thought it was classic. I love A Christmas Story! I watch it every year at Christmas. This Homemade Ralphie Costume from A Christmas Story was fun to create and I had never seen it before.

Homemade Ralphie and the Leg Lamp Couple Costume
My husband has wanted to be Ralphie for years, but that left me high 'n' dry for a costume idea. Until....
I love dressing up as inanimate objects. I was a package of Smarties a few years ago! I am not a great seamstress, that's for sure, but I managed to somehow get this bunny suit together. The zipper and the ears were the hardest part. The Red Rider BB Gun, well, that was a broom handle and some wood scraps my hubby found in the basement.
The lamp costume was much easier...went with the pattern in my head! I know, I know, my Leg Lamp has two legs, but I wasn't going to stand on one leg for the entire night! ;)
We had a great time dressing up in these Ralphie and the Leg Lamp Couple Costume, got tons and tons of compliments.
Unfortunately, I did not take pictures while I was making the costume.

Homemade "A Christmas Story" Couple Halloween Costumes
Loving the movie 'The Christmas Story' and having to make a costume to go to a Halloween party my Husband Matt and I set out to make our homemade "A Christmas Story" couple Halloween costumes, I bought an old lamp shade and some fringe and hot glued the fringe to the shade, add stockings and high heels and I am done!
Matt created his costume from scratch and it turned out great!
We had such fun making it and everyone loved our idea... Adding phrases such as "you'll shoot your eye out" and "Fra-gee-lee", people soon got our concept as if just looking at it didn't help :)
