Homemade Cruella Deville Costume

Homemade Cruella Deville Costume

I am currently enrolled with an internship at Disney World in Florida, so I thought that for this year's Halloween I'd stick with a Disney theme! After deciding to be Cruella, I had to figure out a way to make her come to life.

The wig was originally an Einstein wig that I teased and sprayed half black. The dress was originally from a French Maid costume I had worn a few years back, I just took the lace off of the bottom and cleavage of the dress. To be honest, the hardest part of putting together the costume was making the giant Dalmatian scarf.

I took a plain white bath rug from Walmart and cut it in half. I sewed the two halves together long ways ans sewed the ends together so that all was left was the white fur. I took a piece of paper and made a stencil of Dalmatian dots, and spray painted spots along the entire rug. The last step was that I sewed a feather boa onto the top of the rug where I had sewed it together, which covered up the part that I sewed together giving it a more finished look.

The shoes were bought at a costume shop, but were originally white. They were spray painted red to go with the rest of the Homemade Cruella Deville Costume.

I loved portraying Cruella Deville. She was a super fun and feisty character. I had people asking to take pictures with me all night. I watched the 101 Dalmatians cartoon lots of times to get Cruella's voice and mannerisms down. I knew the white fur coat would be the hardest to find but I was lucky because I borrowed the beautiful white faux fur coat from my mother-in-law.

I had the black dress, purse, cig holder, nylons and shoes. All I bought was the wig, earrings and gloves. I spent about $15. I cut out black construction paper for the black spots on the purse. I bought two sets of earrings from a second hand store so I could use one of the earrings for Cruella's ring. I used my own makeup for the Cruella face. This Cruella Deville Costume took a couple of days to perfect but I think I nailed her look!

This is the best Cruella costume. Love the facial expressions, too. :)

All of our Cruella and Dalmatians Group Costume was homemade. For the Dalmatians we bought white dresses from American apparel, bought black velvet fabric that we cut into thousands of circles and used double sided fabric tape to adhere them to the plain white dresses. The ears were old headbands, pipecleaners and excess fabric we found around our houses. The Cruella costume was just a plain black dress with red velvet fabric we bought, lined the inside with yellow and trimmed with spotted fabric.

How did you do your hair? Is that a wig or did you use temporary spray? I'm afraid of ruining my blond hair!
